Yup, sorry folks, that old chestnut again...
I am refurbing the downstairs cloakroom (WC and wash basin, no bath or shower). House was built in 1996 and the walls (dot and dabbed plasterboard with no skim) were painted with trade matt emulsion (I'm guessing, cos in the early days cleaning baby-sick off a wall sometimes removed a little bit of paint.) The cloakroom walls were later papered, but this has now all been removed (albeit leaving a slightly sticky residue.)
I've read a lot on here and other forums that emulsion paint should be removed as far as possible without mullering the plasterboard, then apply SBR primer, then tile. A lot of elbow grease to clean the walls, but otherwise simples, no?
However, having removed some of the original tiles (200mm x 250mm) it is obvious that some of these were applied over the emulsion, so now I'm confused
The new tiles I've ordered will be heavier, and will be applied floor to ceiling, so I'm not overly keen on higher level tiles deciding to jump ship and do a runner (unless MIL is on the loo, in which case bring it on!)
So, back to the point of al this drivel - should I still go with sanding/scrubbing off the trade emulsion then using SBR, or can I tile it the way the house builders did?
BTW, I will be using 400x250 tiles, and ready-mixed adhesive (uh-oh...) then powdered grout.
Thanks in advance
