i am about to tile our bathroom floor with travertine tumbled tiles they are about 12mm thick.

I have fitted the floor with hardie backer boards and am going to install underfloor heating mat. But this will only cover a section of the floor as you can't run it under the toilet and we are having a roll top bath so that is not heated underneath.

I understand I have to mark the centre of the room and tile out from there. My concern is if that part does not have the mat how do I get the level correct? I.e if I tile the part without the heating mat and then the part with there will be a difference in height.

Any advice?

Use a decent self levelling compound over the whole floor.
