We are having a new toilet installed by a plumber. Should we pay extra and get him to tile behind the toilet or should we do the tiling afterwards and cut tiles around the cistern.

Any other help tips greatly received.

Cheers

If you were intending tiling it yourself why not tile it before he fits the toilet? Otherwise get a peice of MDF the same thickness as the tiles plus adhesive) and get the plumber to fit the cistern on top of it. When you tile empty and take the cistern off and tile, but you will need a tile drill. i alway like to use a flexible pipe joint (metal braided) for the toilet.

Grand, thanks for the help. I think I will try and do something before he fits the toilet.

Best to use exterior ply (WPB) instead of mdf, the mdf will swell up with moisture or water unless you paint it.

get the plumber to fit the toilet allowing clearance for the tiling behind the cistern, then remove the cistern to tile, and replace once completed.

The time it takes to remove and refit the cistern its more than saved in the time it would take to arse around trying to tile behind it.

The pan can be left in situ all the time, as long as the floor isn't being tiled.
