Hi All,

Just wanted to know from the plumbers on here if its worth my son taking out tool insurance for all his plumbing tools and is there a company that they could recommend.

Victor

I have no idea in total but the gas analyser on its own is worth 800 quid.

I'd rather spend the money on measures to prevent the tools getting stolen, like uprated locks on a van etc.

OK thanks. Plus insurance doesn't always pay out.
I Had about £2000 worth of tools stolen from a drive outside a job. I Had cover for a £1000

I had to list my tools that where stolen. No point me listing all £2000 worth of tools stolen. So I listed the most expensive downwards.

I claimed for my milwaukee stack system, which is essentially a tool box £350.

Trade Direct then said tool boxes where not covered.

If they had told me this before the claim then I would have listed the other tools that where stolen.

They only paid out about £650.00

Id spend my money on security.

The van belongs to the company he works for so he can't do any modifications to it. At night he moves his tools into the house or garage so it's just during the day where the tools are most vulnerable.

Surely the company has insurance for during the day, when working for them?

You would think so, and you'd think that the company would get a good security system to protect their workers who ultimately make the company a profit

The last company I worked for would replace your tools if they were stole from outside a job but not if you left them on the van overnight.

It taught me well, I reverse upto the garage every night and move my drills and testers etc into the garage, I can't sleep if I don't.

One saturday morning, about 7.30AM, I turned up on site and noticed that someone had used an air wedge bag to enable them to open the top of a side door on a minivan. They then peeled the door down enough to lean in a grab what they could. Apparently, it won't trigger the alarm because the door hasn't actually been opened.

I don't drive, but when working in unoccupied properties, I hide my most expensive tools (behind bath panels, top cupboards etc). I don't have tool theft insurance, largely because I do not trust insurance companies to pay out.

I will have to get my son to ask if his tools are insured during the day in the van. I don't think there is any additional security measures on the van other than what came as standard from vauxhall.
