Okay, you could give him a screwfix voucher, but it might get wasted on a lot of unnecessary, or poorly judged tools, so why not get him a good gas gun that he'd struggle to justify on his own. He can pick up the smaller bits and pieces as he needs them, and so spread the cost.

Another bit of advice.... He needs to ask questions and advice himself! I know this thread is about helping getting him some kit etc. But when it comes to jobs, technical advice, apprenticeship, or anything else, HE needs to be asking the question.

some companies supply basics and then supply tools but take the money from the wages on a weekly basis so dont get to much yet
