Trellis installation & security

Ive been looking around at other peoples fences (yes I am that sad) and have noticed that they attache the trellis via wooden extensions rather than using longer posts. Is this due to cost or the fact that security is improved as the trellis will collapse more easily via the wooden batton method. Even a new housing development has secured the trellis this way.

no its a crap way of doing it. its done as an after thought. a decent job is done with the posts teh correct length in the first place. now stop pontificating and get on with it!
