Head is knackered, it isn't pushing down on the pin when it should be.
Nope, certainly not universal, it all depends on the size/type of valve fitting, though you do get adapters for most types of valve.

Therefore am I correct in thinking that I need a plumber to fit a completely new valve?
I had a quote a few weeks ago to replace 5 valves which was £450 seemed a bit expensive to me that is why I am trying to just change the faulty heads.

The adapter fits onto the top of the old valve and allows a more modern TRV head to be fitted. Danfoss and Drayton, amongst others, do adapters for their heads
