We just retrieved an old steamer trunk from the attic which I bought in the USA in the early 1980s, and my wife pushed the lock closed without realising that I no longer had the key for it. Can anyone shed any light on what these locks look like on the inside, so that I can work out how to pick it?

I've tried emulating the screwdriver technique from this video:

...but didn't have any luck. The trunk is empty but I'd really like to open it with a view to either using it or selling it.

If you can identify the make of the lock (I cannot read it in the pic) then you can buy a replacement key, just google for it.
I did using "steamer trunk key" and got loads of hits.

You can be more specific by adding the name at the start.

Alternatively, if you pop it in the car and take it to your local locksmiths (should you have one) then they may well have a key for it.

As luck would have it, I was looking for my Swiss Army knife in a drawer and happened to find a key which looked promising...the trunk is now open!
