tbh I think it's laughable that it's considered progress to suggest people switch stuff off. And what will the 'savings' actually equate to for average folk? I also wonder how many monied folk will be switching stuff off ...
It all depends...tbh I think it's laughable that it's considered progress to suggest people switch stuff off. And what will the 'savings' actually equate to for average folk? I also wonder how many monied folk will be switching stuff off ...
I don't have a smart meter and for various reasons won't get one until we're all forced down that route. I suspect the savings for me would be minimal. Living alone, not a massive user of elec stuff regardless of time of day. Maybe different for families where there's a spike in their usage at those times e.g. when kids back from school and parents from work.It all depends...
You must have an electricity smart meter installed and your electricity provider has to offer the scheme.
and
Energy firms have different criteria for who can sign up and exactly how much they pay for saving energy.
The sessions will usually be between 16:00 and 19:00 GMT, because that is when demand is highest.
The first savings session on Monday was one hour long but Tuesday's is one and a half hours, and others could be longer.
Suppliers can choose how much of that to pass on to customers. If you are with Octopus Energy for example you will get £3.37 for every kilowatt hour you save compared to your usual consumption. EDF will pay customers £3 for every unit of energy saved.
So, not using energy-hungry appliances like tumble dryers, washing machines, dishwashers, electric ovens, electric showers and immersion heaters could make a noticeable difference. However, switching off lights, or the TV off standby mode, will earn you very little.

I'm not having a smart meter at any price so the 'offer' means Fanny Adams to me.

No one "has" to use them, it's about choice. It's good that these schemes are dreamt up for us peasants whilst those dreaming up said schemes won't have to use them ...
You've misinterpreted me. When I say 'won't have to use them' my reference is to folk with enough £££ in the bank to not be concerned with such schemes. No one "has" to use them, it's about choice.
Anyone can carry on as before, or increase their usage as they see fit. If someone wants to save some cash by using appliances an hour later than normal, then great.

That's just the way of the world. If people have enough money then, yes, they may or may not worry about it. That has always been the case across society for numerous things.folk with enough £££ in the bank to not be concerned with such schemes.

How?But at least the fallacy that these meters couldn't be used to ration power or operate a 'kill switch' has been exposed...
they can remotely cut off your power on a smart meter without any contact yes the system may require say level 1 /2/3 before remote isolation but as we all know mistakes happenHow?
Power companies have always had the ability to cut off a thieving bill dodgers supply, regardless of how their power is metered. What's your point?
'kill switch'
no they havent ever been able to do it remotely untill smart meters and they cannot just cut anyone off between october and march for none bill payment and its nice to see that you consider people in difficulties trying to keep their kids warm or pensioners dying of hypothermia as thieves.Power companies have always had the ability to cut off a thieving bill dodgers supply, regardless of how their power is metered. Irrelevant. The due process and outcome is exactly the same.no they havent ever been able to do it remotely
More gassy nonsense.its nice to see that you consider people in difficulties trying to keep their kids warm or pensioners dying of hypothermia as thieves.
you obviously do not have a clue about what happens to none bill payers in regards to termination of supplyIrrelevant. The due process and outcome is exactly the same.
