There is a bright horizontal light across the screen. No picture above. Normal picture below. Tried thumping it, but nothing happened. Repair or buy a new TV ??

Frame collapse.

Sounds like the frame chip is u/s. Cost of chip depends on the set, labour will probably cost £45-65. Not a major problem to fix if that's all it is (and the TV is not too old), but without seeing it...
