You have a blue sleeved brown which is Live at the ceiling, so perhaps the same at the switch, but not sleeved?

Yes, I have a volt stick, but have today bought a multimeter as wellFirst of all do you have any test equipment?
Multimeter - volt stick - LED or neon screwdriver?
The way the switch was wired, only the light in the room worked. The light in the loft didn't work.Second, has it ever worked or is it new?
As per the photos - there isn't a blue sleeved brown wire at either the ceiling or the switch. The electrician wasn't particularly keen on marking wiring unfortunately (even though I asked him several times). You have a blue sleeved brown which is Live at the ceiling, so perhaps the same at the switch, but not sleeved?

So, this isn't your photo?Does this help?

Yes 2 lights. Is it 2 lights this switch should turn on and off?
Turn all the power off and test continuity between each brown and blue and brown and blue marked brown in the light.
Sorry, my mistakeSo, this isn't your photo?

If you are convinced the cable marked SW is this cableView attachment 423152and the brown is the perm live you mentioned earlier, try joining the blue and brown together.
If that doesn't work, as in light the bulb, check the voltage is around 230-240 at the points shown with red arrows. View attachment 423153(meter set to AC volts at a range higher than 250V, such as ~300V or ~600V)
Do any other lights not work because of this?
So light 1 go into com and L1 of 1 switch. So connecting these together does make the light come on. I assume that means the live is at the light, not switch as I had previously thought?
Lights in other rooms aren't affected.
I'm still confused why connecting them all together doesn't make both lights come on?

OF COURSE IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT ALL OF THIS IS DONE IN A SAFE MANNER.
First measure for any voltage on the unknown cable - hopefully see 230-240V
If nothing
Test between the unknown blue and the Perm live - hopefully see 230-240V
If so, try thisView attachment 423159

any thoughts on this:OF COURSE IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT ALL OF THIS IS DONE IN A SAFE MANNER.

...Can you trace where the cables run to?
2 are obvious: to light 1 rose and light 2. the 3rd 'unknown cable' I'm assuming/hoping goes to another light or a junction box for a permanent neutral and ideally a live too.
