And that's the point.

It's what they want from apple. Nothing extra.

How they use it is my concern. Not what they have access to
You should be more concerned about the weakening of security necessary to deliver up the access. Apple are arguing that they do not have the ability that is being demanded, so they would need to downgrade the security to provide it. Once there is a door, others will find it.

The question is, do you want criminals to be unable to be spied upon, and if so, why ?

I also can't get my head around the legal situation. The reports say Apple must comply. But what if they don't?
They won’t comply.

The USA have asked for similar in the past.

Android/google are data slags.

Musks Tesla dash cams for ya.

Could be Noseall ?

Than there is the Chinese that may be installing shut down electronics in there leccy cars

The entire country could come to a halt via massive traffic jams when Hoo Mee in peking throws the switch ??

This country is going down the collective toilet

Russians / Chinese agents and infiltrators

Terrorists ? And other such fruit cakes being shipped over here by the French

This country needs a task force to sort this caper out the task force needs a specific mission
And that mission needs turbo charging

Every right minded citezin needs to be on there

If the spying results in the introduction of a back door that means people's iCloud content can be accessed then I would politely ask the security services to find a better way.

And if the child abusers or terrorists communicate exclusively using iPhones, how might they manage that?

If the perp doesn’t store his credentials in the key chain etc. and uses a 3rd party encrypted platform. There will be nothing useful stored in iCloud.

Crims use onion routers etc to connect to dodgy sites all the time. U.K. security are just hoping to catch the dummies that save their passwords.

What a swerve.

Exactly, they are just on a fishing trip.
