What am I missing?

Why can't you buy a non-rewireable plug with a lead and cut off the other end?

In a bedroom I have a 1960's shaver light. The advantage of this is that there is no isolation Transformer and the socket is always on. Euro plugs fall out of it.

I intend to plug something into this, and run it to a 2 pin euro extension socket (already have one somewhere), and then hardwire into the back a toothbrush charger base.

Why is the use of the 1960s piece necessary?

A 2 pin or any other euro socket extension lead could just be connected to an FCU, or put a 13A plug on it and plug in anywhere convenient.
The same for the toothbrush charger base.

It provides power even when the light is off.

The item is there, functions and is in the correct location to power the devices.

It’s powered off an appropriate RCD & MCB 6A circuit.

Minimal work, cost. Just making life easy.

I could fit a schuko socket into the wall, which is what I usually end up doing, but not necessary in this case.

Might be easier to buy a new elec toothbrush, the one i have (from Lidl) lasts for weeks on an overnight charge

Probably going to cost more than £5 including the replacements heads

And I would still need to plug it in somewhere.

Am temptend to see what they sell now though!

Ditto that, it’s what I use. Have no shaver socket in the bathroom cos I never use electric shavers I have never seen the need for myself. Of course I have installed them for my customers if they wanted them.

The cheaper models are usually very similar, but have fewer add-on features. At one time they deliberately downgraded the motor speed, but they don't seem to do that now.

I’ve just checked a 16A German in the 1960s light and it doesn’t fit. (It fits the modern ones).

Someone on eBay is having a look thru their collection for me. Or I’ll relook at the one above or make use of something I already have.

Mrs alwaysgotabloodyanswer & I both have Lidl own-brand handles, which take Oral B heads.

They work fine, but you have to do without advanced bluetoothery, and put up with it just buzzing every 30s.

All German plugs have the same pin spacing and length, including the Euro
plug. Only the diametre is different, 4 mm for Euro and ancient 6 A plugs (only designed for class 0 appliances, won‘t fit modern sockets) and 4.8 mm for all others. That non-earthed plug is essentially the common ancestor of all continental European plugs. Only when earthing came into the picture, a list of different solutions developed.
