Ukraine counter offensive

Ukraine has been split by empires in the past, a european one. Austro Hungarian. France and the UK took Crimea, In the ship area it is strategically important, TBH I wondered if the west would say ok have it, Save a lot of trouble, Or some deal but there had been a revolution of sorts,

Minsk agreement. It's only possible to get a sketchy idea of which side was fond of breaking that. Asov brigade going on the terrorist lists.

Go back to earlier reports before things kicked off this time and it was clear that there was a lot of support for being Russian in the east even in Kharkiv, Then the language changes, Which ever you like and then Ukrainian only, Changes to laws about oly's.

It's pretty clear that this war could be anticipated and the weapon supply has it's interesting aspects, LOL Conspiracy stuff or is it.

I'm pretty sure Ukraine was also carved up between Poland and Lithuania in the 17th century...

The Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, formally known as the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and, after 1791, as the Commonwealth of Poland, was a bi-confederal state, sometimes called a federation, of Poland and Lithuania ruled by a common monarch in real union, who was both King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. It was one of the largest and most populous countries of 16th- to 17th-century Europe. At its largest territorial extent, in the early 17th century, the Commonwealth covered almost 1,000,000 km2 (400,000 sq mi) and as of 1618 sustained a multi-ethnic population of almost 12 million.

It was a huge chunk; covering the Baltic States, Belarus, all the way down to Southern Ukraine and the Crimea - and No. Russia isn't going to give it back. Ukraine will have to pay a heavy price for that piece of real estate. Crimea is the key to strategic control of Southern Russia, the Black Sea and all Ukraine.

If you're looking through the thousands of years of countries being conquered, splitting, merging and generally ensuring map-makers stay in work then no country has the right to exist.

Countries exist at the meeting point of how much people feel like they are the same as others and inertia.

Putin has probably done more than anyone in history to foster Ukrainian cohesion and national pride.

Seems the Russians are claiming that there were 83 troops killed at this recent Ukranian attack on the barracks ?

So we can assume the sctual
Figure is higher than 83

Apparently the Russian high command are blaming the use of mobile phones by its troops for giving away there position ????

Putin is banking on western support
For the ukraines falling away as the war drags on ???

Who knows?

But it does give the Kremlin an excuse to ban soldiers on active service from phoning home

And letting the truth get out.

Would have thought that it would be good military practice in any army fighting a war to restrict or ban personal mobile phones ?? From the front line ??

Another package of support is coming from US soon, and France just announced they are supplying light tanks and APCs, and more support will be forthcoming from other western countries, i don't think we'll let Ukraine down.

Hope not ? But as it drags on they could come under increasing pressure ? To
Negotiate ?? Imo ?

They are.

However they don't always follow the rules. Sometimes it's discipline, other times they need mobiles as they don't have enough or good enough radios.

That last one isn't just a Russian thing, our troops do it on a regular basis.
