Ukraine counter offensive

Meanwhile; all is not well behind Russian lines...
Yevgeny Prigozhin’s Wagner group of mercenaries has captured a Russian commander, as the notorious leader further escalates his feud with the regular army. In a video posted on Prigozhin’s social media channels, Lt Col Roman Venevitin, the commander of Russia’s 72nd Brigade, tells an interrogator that, while drunk, he had ordered his troops to fire on a Wagner convoy.
Last week, Prigozhin accused the Russian army of trying to blow up his men as they were pulling back from the eastern Ukrainian town of Bakhmut.

A Russian held major dam on the Dnipro has been destroyed. It will flood out a lot of people and reduce the water to Crimea in the future.

There is already major flooding downstream and it will starve the Russian held nuclear plant on the South bank of cooling water. They have enough reserves to safely shut down if needed but it isn't a good thing.

There are three theories as to the cause, Russian attack, Ukrainian attack or Russian negligence. The dam has been 'over topping' in recent days as it has gotten too full and water goes over the top of the dam. That might have led to the dam being washed away, which apparently happens much faster than you'd think, or just contributed to the size of the flooding.

I doubt it would be "overtopping", unless it is a concrete dam and it spills by flowing over the top, but that's unusual. It might have been overflowing, which is built into the design to prevent overtopping.
They are two different things.

I'm not an expert so may be using the wrong term, but this design was not designed to allow water to flow over the top along the full length, which it was doing in recent satellite photos.

It has spillways but they were clearly failing to keep the levels to design levels.

It happened last September as well. That was not spillage.

"Ukrainian officials say as many as eight Russian missiles hit the dam on Wednesday"

The Wagner group are reported to have detained a Russian officer

A colonel in charge of the 72nd brigade who apparently ordered his men to fire at the Wagner troops ?

The captured colonel features in a Wagner propaganda video.

As a prisoner pleading for his life, his performance has been likened to an ISIS hostage.

He is aware that Wagner execute deserters and other prisoners by smashing their heads in with hammers, or decapitating them with spades

Ukranian sources are not reliable.

They lied about Nord stream.

Or that their military has committed acts which are war crimes, e.g. Bucha.

Oh, yes, @Vinty I well recall the Russian government and media trying to tell the world that the mutilated dead bodies strewn in many streets in Bucha were the result of the fascist government in Kyiv torturing and murdering their own people. Or have you forgotten that episode? WTF?
