I wonder if they will now bother with giving 16 year olds the vote as the only reason for giving 16 year olds the vote was because data showed that they are more likely to vote labour than any other party. As those 16 /17/18 year olds at general election time are currently 13/14/15 and right now fully imbedded into these platforms - they are going to hate labour for taking it away from them.

I suspect this is a sop to the teaching profession as much as anything else. The online campaigners seem lukewarm about it. But if stops the youth of today from getting goldfish brains its probably has some benefits. There is presumably an easy work around for parents/adult friends who object to the ban, or want to make money, by giving/selling them a phone they have had verified.

There could be an easy way for some people and that is if you have had an account for 16 years then you have to be 16. So they could bring that down to say- had an account for 6 years so you would have to be 10 when you had an account which is not likely is it ?
Otherwise no everyone will have to prove their age.

I went through airport security the other day, finger prints, eye scan, shoes off. That’s a real liberty

We won’t be able to do anything without digital ID very soon. This is just a way to start the kids off on the “right” foot.

They can hardly let under 18s vote now, Labour have plans for a curfew on under 18s using some social media/sites, so obviously they think they're not mature enough to make their own decisions

Yes its a sneaky way to get everyone on a digital ID - they tried "it will stop illegals"- we told the government to F off so now they are using the children - who can argue against protecting the children.
Its like they have got the old covid nudge unit on the case and they have come up with a brilliant plan. Heck even parents are asking for it to be done and that is exactly what happened with covid, so in the end people were asking to be vaxed and begging to be locked down, the nudge unit worked so well that people were driving in their car on their own and wearing a mask -- made out of an old shirt.

Although it's difficult for governments to introduce legislation/laws that please everyone, I feel for those kids under 16 who use social media responsibly and for whom it's an important method of socialising.

And as with any law, people (young or old) determined to find a way around it will.
