undoing pipe from service valve

I'm removing the bathroom basin. I've turned the water off at the service valve. Can I just unscrew the compression joint on the 'out' side as I want rid of that length of pipe along with the basin.

My head says yes but as an amateur I thought I'd better check 1st.

Shouldnt be an issue, id check service valve fully shuts off supply 1st though!
