I might be wrong but I thought I read they were claiming self defence. The video would have been studied in minute detail against various testimonies so who knows?, maybe more detail will be released in time.

What isn't mentioned much is the hostility of the bystanders. Nobody stepped in to help the police; the crowd standing round and filming all appeared to be Pakistanis. The police involved did a heroic job and without resorting to their guns; if we had a proper government they would be given medals for bravery.
