Hello

I have a UNIFLO G4SZV gas meter. it says on the manual "optical detection of measuring gray code"
what does this mean?

I want to shut off the gas for a couple of days as I am refurbishing the kitchen in another property of mine and don't want to hit the gas pipes accidentally.

if I shut it off from the yellow lever, that would be fine. will the utility know i have to switch it off as there will be no gas in the meter as i will purge the gas out using the cooker?

and yes, I will get a profession regulated gas engineer to hook all gas appliances etc...

Thanks

"optical detection of measuring gray code"
what does this mean?
Grey code is a counting sequence where only one bit changes when the count increments. It reduces the risk of an error in reading the sensor when the value is changing.

In normal counting several bits can change at the same time when the value changes, for example incrementing from 7 ( 0111 ) to 8 ( 1000 ) changes all four bits, if they all change at precisely the same time then errors are unlikely. However optical reading of a sensor's disc will create some transient values while the disc moves from 7 to 8 due to the inevitable mis-alignment and varying sensitivity of the opto sensors

Thanks a lot!
