Hi Can anybody help me please my neighbour would like me to remove her eye level gas oven as she is having an electric one fitted. I am not Corgi but have been told that if it is bayonet fitting, anybody is allowed to disconnect the bayonet fitting and it will self seal and can be left like that.

Can anybody tell me is this correct, i.e. could I just unplug her oven for her as I am quite capable of removing the oven (used to be building services engineer but did not ever touch gas)?

It is quite easy to remove once the gas is disconnected.

Also does it not need capping, is the bayonet fitting a good enough seal once disconnected?

Any advice appreciated

Cheers Dan, I know how, I just was not sure if it was ok to leave it like that, with no capping off involved long term.

this has been covered many times, you can leave a bayonet connection as a permanent point of disconnection IF it is fitted properly, ie facing down (so no dirt gets in it) securely clipped to the wall and most importantly if it doesn't leak, can you confirm all of the above? if yes then it can be left, but good working practice would dictate if it wasn't going to be used again best to cap the supply and test for leaks,
