Upstairs Cold Water Slow

Hello everyone!

I have a small problem that is more of a nuisance than anything else. Our hot water both upstairs and downstairs works fine, and has regular pressure. However our cold water sometimes comes out very slowly upstairs at the sink and the bath, but not downstairs in the kitchen at the washing machine, or sinks.

I presume the problem cannot be something that has happened to the system, as it is not always the case, so obviously something is causing this to happen, that resolves itself every so often. The disruption can last for many days at a time, and then return to normal without warning.

My knowledge is limited with plumbing but if there is anything you need to know, such as central heating or emersion heating in our home, please can you tell me what i am looking for so not to waste your time with vague answers.

upstairs water is liable to be tank fed

the d/s will be mains

If you have a storage tank in the roof....it`s probably got a dead bird or rat in it ...and the decomposing remains are blocking the feed pipe..or a rude mag ...yes I`ve seen all these things in storage tanks . If so you need a Bylaw 30 kit from your local plumbers merchant.

Or rust, or bits of old wood, or even a condom...
To clear the pipe you will probably have to get the garden hose (mains pressure) connected to your open upstairs cold tap(s). Turn hose on and you'll force water and blockage back up into the tank.

Thanks for all your suggestions people!

I the end i attached a hose from the downstairs mains fed tap to the upstairs, tank fed tap and forced the air out of the system.

So yes, it was an airlock, thanks very much once more!
