Hi everyone, really hope someone can come to the rescue.

I have double uPVC patio doors and the one that you would close first, the handle won't go up to shut or allow me to turn key to lock. The other door is fine. I have checked all hinges and alignments, all seem to be ok. I've tried the key on the outside but nothing happening. Now assuming it might be the gearbox. how much would I expect to pay for a locksmith and replacement? Or is it easy to do myself? Under these lockdown restrictions and money being tight, I am really hoping it will just be something so simple.

Thanks in advance!!!

Can you send a photo of the offending door locking system and the lock that’s not working please.

Hi Jonny, thanks for your reply!!

Good afternoon jjamm, from the pictures it could be that the top frame housing has moved this is the metal bit and this will affect the shootbolt movement hence not allowing the locking system to work. The shoot bolts come out of the top and bottom of the door for added security. Try that and let me know how you get on please.

Unfortunately I have already tried that. It seems to be the actual handle itself that won't move upwards. Can push it down no problem, hence why I'm thinking it must be something within the door mechanism. Any more suggestions would be welcome!!

You could try taking the handles off simple to do just 2 screws and have a look to see if something has moved.

I'll give that a go and report back. Thanks for your help!!
Much appreciated!

Firstly try the handle with the door actually open , this will immediately tell you whether it is a problem with the ' lining up /door dropping ' or any issue with the locking mechanism.
