All our UPVC windows have these ugly bits of plastic strip that covers up a narrow gap between inner wall and frame. I can see why they are used, simple and effective way to bridge the gap.
But are they really necessary?
On one of our windows I recently replaced the timber window cill and now the back edge of the board fits very close to the frame. I am thinking that some caulking will be sufficient to fill that gap without a cover strip.
The side gaps are about 5mm. Is there any reason why I cannot simply fill the gap and avoid the trim? The only reason I can think of is differential expansion rates that eventually open up the caulking.
