Hi guys I'm just redoing my fascias and soffit and decided to go for the above mentioned caps over my cemented verge, I have cut back my tiles by 30mm to allow the trim to sit flush and reading some instructions it says to remove all old mortar, my question is is this necessary? Can it be left in and covered? Is it so the plastic trims can slide under the tiles? Is it also to expose the timbers?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm learning on the job
