Using flexible floor tiles or covering in shower floors

I'm trying to avoid using ceramic tiles in my home-made shower pan. To avoid cracking of ceramic shower tiles, I think ceramic tiles need a very firm foundation (like heavy mortar base). Also, if you affix ceramic tiles with waterproof adhesive, I think the adhesive is likely to be flexible, which will lead to tiles cracking. This is my understanding at any rate.

So, lets say I want to use flexible floor tiles (or covering) for my shower pan affixed with a waterproof adhesive - what sort of product am I looking for?

Be nice if I could just cut one piece of covering and lay it. Thanks.

Aah, I think the key words I should be using are: safety; vinyl; shower.

I think I should be using "Polysafe Hydro" or "Alto Aquarius" or similar products.
