Hi there

I recently laid some reclaimed pine floor boards. going to sand and hard waxoil them this weekend.

There are a few small holes in the boards, some old nail homes, others where the odd chunk has been taken out over time.

My question then is can I collect up some of the sawdust (when I sand the floor) and mix with woodglue to creat a wood filler?

I have heard this used before on woodworking projects, but never tried it.

What type of glue could I use and how long before I could sue the waxoil on top after?

Kind regards

mick - yes you can but consider a better method. Use wooden plugs made from a spare bit of the matching boards. Method - get a screwdigger & plug cutter set (Screwfix do 'em), bore-out the damaged bit of floorboard with the screwdigger (a sort of counterbore), use the plug cutter to make the plug which you glue and tap into the bored hole (align the wood grain of plug & f/board), pare/sand off anything proud. Doing it this way produces an almost invisible fix.

Bigger holes means chiselling these out square or rectangular then fashioning a matching tapered plug for the fix. If you make the plug tapered it will 'grow' to completly fill the hole as it's being driven in.
