you will need to fit firedoor frames as these will have intumescent strip rebates too.

Chop the stops off with a chisel, and finish with a plane or sander and then plant new, deeper stops on.

You can cut the 10mm off the existing with a chisel, rebate plane or a router. But then you will need to plant a 5mm strip on to deepen the stops

Router the int. strips into the door not frame.

There was a post on here a few weeks back with this question, and it may have more details

just spoke to building control about a few things and they have said i do not need fire doors fitting on all the doors IF i put in a wireless smoke detector in each room of the house except bathroom. sounds a lot easier so i will be doing this !

woody, if the o.p had a casing then chopping with a chisel and plane would be very difficult - bad advice.

you can not get a planer into the corners, and you would need a specialist rebate plane for a 'casing'.

here is an example of a casing:

Was I thinking of a casing or a lining? Dunno

Yes, you would not want to be planing or chiseling off the timber off a casing, or should that be lining?

I did say use a rebate plane or router didn't I, and no I did not mention the bits in the corners, but I thought the OP would figure that one out

And what are those 3 nails doing like that? Sure its 3 nails vertically down the centre of the jamb and not horizontally?
