Valiant Turbomax 282 hot water only when c/h on

Hi guys,

Our boiler has developed a problem.

We can only get hot water when the c/h is on. I suspect the diverter valve. We have already replaced the diaphram but this has not cured the problem.

Before I shell out 120 + VAT of my hard earned cash would anyone agree with me ?

I would expect you're right, but it's possible the small switch on the right of the DV has bust/moved/got wet so the boiler doesn't come on even with the diverter moving correctly. The white lever thingy breaks too. You can get a refurb kit which has all the bits in, or just the switch. Two will come in the switch kit, replace with the same colour one. Black is later than green.

Where can I get the switch and refurb kit for the DV ? I thought the only kit available is the diaphram kit ?

Hi all,

I have found that pressing the microswitch on the side of the DV allows hot water to be supplied without the CH being on.

I replaced the microswitch (found a local gas equipment supplier) but the DV still will not work on its own and required pressing of the microswitch to start up the boiler.

Does this mean that the DV is faulty ? What else is left in a DV ? I have replaced the diaphram and the microswitch and still only hot water is supplied if either the microswitch is pressed or the CH is on.

The bow (the white plastic lever) that transfers motive force from the diaphragm pin to the microswitch is broken. Get the refurb kit and strip down the diverter to replace.

If the diaphragm is not holed and is correctly fitted then it should be working! The shaft above it could be seized up. Thats why we replace the whole valve.

There is an adjustment screw on the underneath which I think is to set the DHW flow rate activate flow rate. I have never seen any instruction on setting this though, can anyone advise?

I think Gasguru probably has it right. The white plastic lever is prone to break.
