Can anyone shed any light on the following:

The boiler starts up every few minutes and runs for a short period of time (mostly less than 60 seconds). This occurs throughout the day and is definitely NOT associated with any demand for hot water or central heating. In fact it is noticeable that if you run the hot water (say a bowl full for washing up) the boiler does not immediately respond.

It is as though the boiler is keeping itself warm!

Boiler has recently been serviced and both the hot water cylinder stat and the boiler ignition electrodes have been changed.

The service engineer had no idea why the boiler was firing as described above and did not seem bothered.

Is this the way the boiler is designed to work? Seems as though I am using gas and electricity that I should not need to.

It is probably the warm start for domestic hot water. To turn if off you need to turn the hot water control on the boiler to the off position then back to your setting. To turn it back on the control full on then back to your setting. Turn it off and see if that helps. ;)

I have checked the boiler controls and can only see a combined hot water and central heating setting. Any other thoughts?

Sounds like the equivalent of the Vaillant 'S53' fault, that you get on the ecotec plus range.

Too much power for the system and not enough flow through it.

These boilers MUST have the pump on full speed and be range rated to suit the system.

Has the co2% been checked properly?

The eco max pro works on temperature differentials, if the delta T is too high too quick the boiler will shut dow to low gas and recheck the flow & return ntc s. It will continue to hunt like this hoping the sysytem will sort itself, sometimes throwing a F 22 or F 25 fault code.

This is a circulation issue, check the pump, any shut valves, system water quality.

Why do you all think that its not a warmstart firing?

Because the Ecomax Pro is a heat only boiler with no warm start.

It is the forerunner to the Ecotec Plus 400 series

Right that explains it then, Dave!

Apparently Peruse did not sus that either.

If only people could use simple model numbers to identify boilers!
