Hi

I have the battery version of Google's video doorbell. My house has never had a wired chime.

I don't particularly want a chiming chime either as have Google speakers for announcements.

So does such a thing exist that can be fed from a ring, mounted in a flush metal back box, that then feeds on to the doorbell. Principally like an FCU, but one that transforms to '8–24 VAC, 10–40 VA' - that's from Google's documentation.

I 100% don't want a 3-pin plugin transformer.

Thanks

I assume that you're happy with the fact that they rely on an internet connection to Google's servers, which means that they could at any time stop them from working (as they have just done for Gen 1 & Gen 2 Nest thermostats), or decide to implement a regular subscription charge?

Oh - and that they eavesdrop on you?

So, presumably are you really going to go through the hassle of chasing the walls, installing a cable to a metal back box, and then having it all filled in, knowing it may not look original or uniform, instead of just using a 3-pin plug-in transformer?

Why? Is it because of a fear of the appearance? Would putting the cable from the plug in trunking help?

Many door bell transformers are rated for a very low duty cycle.

I don't currently have any power anywhere near the front door - or in the hallway at all. My house has ground floor wiring running through the ceiling then down the walls (concrete floor).

I'm likely to be replacing carpets upstairs next year so was going to take that opportunity to do whatever I need wiring wise - including chasing and making good etc. as I'm used to doing that. The wall I'd chase is only a 30cm wide reveal for front door anyway. The doorbell is on the other side of this reveal so would actually be easy to accomplish.
