I know they're still testing, but I haven't seen wind of any prototype 5G phones yet.

I had read elsewhere however that 5G will be only available to consumers such as the emergency services initially. Not sure when it'll be on sale to the general public, perhaps it will be next year? Of course a nationwide roll out if going to take years.

I doubt it. If it is to be, it won't be a quick death. The suppliers will want to claw back as much as possible so initially I'd imagine 5G will cost a fortune to use.

3G more likely... 2G (GSM) is likely to remain giving service for a much longer service life - eventually every generation of mobile comm's 'drops back' to 2G.
