Here are two options about Europe. Should Europe be as it was in the 70s, a trading bloc whereby we shared trade and little else. If foreign labour is needed then temporary work permits could be given. These people would have no rights to benefits or housing.

Or should Europe be as it is today? Free movement of people who can live here and claim all the benefits that a British born person can? Basically, ruled by Brussels.

irrellevant question as the british govt has decided to substitute quotas for permits.

dont believe for one minute that anyone from 'europe' can come here legally without being vetted.

when you say "where anyone in Europe can live here." do you include the other side of the coin "anyone from Britain can live and work in other parts of Europe"?

so that (as today) Brits can buy houses in Spain, France etc and live there without having to apply to be immigrants? Or can work in Paris or Berlin without special permission? Or would you put a stop to that?

We'd all have the same laws John. If I wanted to work in Berlin then I'd apply for a work permit and return when it expired.

and all those Brits who've bought second homes or retired to the sun would have to come back?

Not if they can prove they have the finances to look after themselves without draining their host country. They would have to apply just as you would have to apply to live in Australia.
