Hello All,
I am getting my block paving done this week, the guy doing it says you wack the hardcore underneath. but you dont wack the bricks.
I will have quite a heavy van parked on them when finished.
Some people i speak to say, you have to wack the bricks, any comments please?

You compact the sub-base, you compact the sand and you compact the block paving.

Your contractor is a buffoon.

to clarify, you whack the hell out of the sub-base in layers

you whack the sand bed before screeding.

you whack the blocks to optimum compaction as the sand is poured in to lock it all together You may get one or 2 crack and need replacing, but the drive wont move any where after that.

How deep a sub-base is he putting down?

Noseall,
buffoon is not the word, he is getting sacked off...and its not just because he has a different theory on paving...thanks fellas

you can have a different theory on block paving. the theories normally prove themselves about a year down the line when areas have sunk

AFAIK you wack the bricks with a rubber pad on the wacker..or you can keep it moving over extra sand if no rubber available.
