Rely on the numpty who stuffed the wires in having left exposed copper?
Whilst you're at it, you should perhaps ask the same of Ashley/Hager MF JBs (and some other things).

They claim to have a test port, I think ONCE I have managed to get a probe down to it.

I had to strip the ends off of my new voltage probes to reach the test points, Pi$$ed right off I was. I'm certainly not doing that with my test kit probes!
Just jam a bit of bare 1mm in there, and be careful not to touch it.

Particular if one is "testing for dead", how certain can one be that one has achieved satisfactory contact when trying to push thin things through these little test holes?

That long merger probe is a beast though. Can get it into service heads for Ze/PFC. Or so I'm told

I wonder if they have now heard of that one? ... when my meter was replaced earlier this week, the chappy put sealant around all the cables entering the service fuses (which have been sitting there with 'little gaps' for at least 30 years!).That long merger probe is a beast though. Yea that's where you come unstuck. I don't think it's so much that, more that heads are often in a cupboard under the stairs, and I've seen all sorts of dangerous stuff on top of ones with no putty - sewing pins/needles, nails, screws etc. So I suspect it's much more about IP rating than us testing through the gaps
They only do that when they suspect theft of electricity.
