Wall behind a gas hob

Hi,
Any ideas on regulations relating to the protection of a wall behind a gas hob. Nothing mentioned in manufacturers instructions apart from min distance of 55mm between hob and wall.

Will tiles be OK or do I need a glass/stainless splashback

Any non-flammable surface will be fine, tiles included.
