I'd like to replace these wall lights and looking for some advice on what I need to look for to accommodate the wiring.

They're fitted to the wood surrounding the window and above fitted cupboards, so the wiring doesn't run into the wood but comes through the wall a little way away (from both above and below...!).

I don't want to do a big wiring job. What should I look for or what can I do to make it neater and prettier, please?

I am sorry to say that the "installation" in the photo is,
while obviously messy,
also
is incorrectly wired.

If this is an example of the Electrical Installations in your premises,
you may have more "problems" than you now realize!

How the wiring can be run and "accomodated" will depend largely on your choice of wall light.
Show us the one you want and that may make it easier to help.
