Wall sockets always switched on.

I think that many people are being a bit rotten to (I assume) Katie. Provided only that this is not just a 'wind up' (which I very much doubt), it's clear that the matter is of appreciable genuine concern to her, no matter how it is coming about.

As I've said to her, the simplest way of eliminating 'technological' (i.e. faulty socket) explanations, no matter how unlikely, would be for her to get someone to change the socket for a new one. If that did not make the problem go away, then one could move on to investigating some of the other, less technological, possible explanations.

Kind Regards, John

Could you post a photo of the socket, and do you have a cat?
I have heard of a cat operating socket switches. Whether it's 'sharpening its claws' on the wall and accidentally catches the switch, or whether the cat has OCD as well, I have no idea.

Sorry for the apparent trivialising of OCD, but I couldn't resist.

No, no - even though our posts were adjacent, you were not one of the 'some people' to whom I referred. The photo would be interesting, and the question about cats is very valid - I wouldn't count either of those as trivialising in any way. Many of the other comments, however, have (IMO) been less than serious and sympathetic!

John, I was referring to my joke about the cat having OCD, not your post at all.
Oh, I see - I was merely trying to let you off any hook which I may have appeared to put you on. To be honest, I hadn't even noticed your original photo/cat post when I commented!

If the cat had OCD, one might expect that the switches would keep going on and off :-) More seriously, we once had cats which were quite adept at operating the controls of electronic equipment, and even remote controls - resulting in all sorts of seemingly weird phenomena, often in the dead of night!

Kind Regards, John

If it is a poltergeist which always seems to crop up in the answers, (hence why I asked if there was a logical reason) then they like to prank me but only on these two switches, no others.
You mean you have asked this question before and the poltergeist answer was suggested - where did you ask the question before and what was the advice given?

I am not a troll, I'm genuinely after help, I have better things to do with my time than troll.
But that is what trolls do.
I don't know the ins and out house electrics so was hoping for some helpful info because at the end of the day I just want my home safe!
You have had nearly two days now and other than using the OCD card and denying you are a troll, you have done nothing (at least you haven't told us - no contact for 36 hours) with regard to the suggestions made.
For example replacing the switch socket with an un-switched version or if as you say you are a novice in terms of electrics then call an electrician.
I think BAS got it right - you are a number 7.

But why would the cat turn the switches back on John? I doubt that would be possible though even if it wanted to.
Depends on the switches, I guess! My tongue-in-cheek comment related to the fact that repetitive behaviour is a major feature of OCD, at least in humans (I'm no authority on cats :-) ).

Kind Regards, John

Who knows, but examination of most of this thread could give insight into possible reasons she has not been seen/heard for a while.

Again, who knows, but it would be pretty unusual Troll behaviour. They don't usually initiate something and then vanish. On the contrary, one of the main reasons they are a pain is because they want to remain very much 'engaged' in a silly discussion.

Kind Regards, John
