Hi all

Just a quick :?: i had a company do a survey report which specialize in wall ties,

The report came back as, the ties are showing evidence of corrosion to a level 6 based on BRE Digest 401 table 2,

Anyway there recommendation is to use REMEDIAL wall ties.

They stated in the survey that they drilled holes ( S ) AS IN MORE THAN ONE, but they done 1 hole

The Quotation was £ 1297.00 = to locate existing wall ties and replace with these REMEDIAL TIES,

Does any one think this is a bit high as in price, bearing in mind,

!st its a terrace house ( 2 bed )

2nd been on the net and you can get 100 remedial ties for £150 - or less

Any feed back good or bad are welcome,

thanks.

sounds like another con to me. perhaps he was a damp proof specialist that went bust and decided a new way of fleecing people was necessary.

lol he read the HUGE debate on here that rising damp does not exist, and he got out quick!

nose all

the company do damp proofing as well as other building work even bird control  ( property services )

It seems a bit pricey consideration the price of the ties,

Are the orgininal ties causing the mortar to expand and the wall to crack? If not, why bother? How are they going to remove the old ties anyway? It's just a con.

In a 5m long gable end of house, 72 courses of bricks high (5.4m) there should be 66 wall ties minimum, lot of drilling to me, also would have to take 66 bricks out to re-lay the one end of the tie.

the wall are not cracking.

He said they showed evidence of corrosion, well one hole they drilled did anyway,

PS I'm selling my house and it was buyer who got the wall ties checked out

anything the customer cant see, i.e. drains, cavities, damp and in some instances roof, then you are going to get con artists telling the customer that they have a problem with them. don't let them or their worthless credentials pass your threshold.

there must/is another wall tie called remedial

Was on the net before and was reading all about them and the report says, drill the walls externally into the inner leaf and install mechanically fixed stainless steel wall ties to the correct torque then fill drill holes.

try checking on the net,

Joe, they don't take out the old ties as some of the type are corroding because of the coating methods but not all wall ties corrode, so they just put new one in, one of the example below.
