My boiler developed a fault. It would switch on and off randomly for 10 sec or so without the HW or CH being on.

The PCB was faulty and also found the expansion vessel empty.

Does anyone know roughly what a supply and install of a new PCB and to re-pressurise expansion vessel should cost. Work took around 2 hours.

If you look up, there's a blue banner with DIYnot written on it, and not AREUBEINGRIPPEDoff?

Most PCBs are about £100. 2 hours labour at £50 per hour.

Then again it is a common con trick to pretend to change the PCB when it's not even faulty.

So £200 ish.

Why did it take so long anyway? I've seen them changed in less than 15 mins.

The right price is what the customer will pay. If you are quoted a million pounds for a job, its up to you whether you accept it. Its down to you to find out (by shopping around) if the quote seems fair. The tradesman is free to quote whatever they want. The only exception in my book would be if the customer was say, elderly, and clearly not in a position to "know".

What did you pay?

Are they £100? Where did you glean this information?

You always struck me as honest Joe. How could you do such a thing?

You have witnessed this boilers board replaced in 15 mins? Thats to
- diagnose a faulty board.
- order a replacent.
- fit replacement.
- carry out all required safety checks on the boiler.
- re-pressurise the expansion vessel.
- test boiler.

Well, whoever you observed was anything but thorough.

In another post Gordongas mentions a pre heat on a similar boiler. Was it actually faulty?

£50 an hour, i don't think so, around london about £80-£100 per hour

going by Pimlicos quoted online prices it would come out at just short of £500
