Was it only a matter of time?

Whilst of course right to name and shame those convicted of these offences, naming them before they are found guilty of anything isn't fair IMHO as their image and reputation will forever after be tainted even if found innocent of any wrongdoing.
Whilst in theory that is the right approach, there is a practical problem...

Anonymity may well lead to the 'well connected' avoiding justice at all if reporting is not allowed...

We already have secret courts in this country, and this approach may well also lead to an increase in 'hidden justice/injustice'!

The argument for naming alleged perpetrators is that that once named other victims step forward and so a case builds. As happened with Rolf and Clifford amongst others.

I am astonished that no one is asking the Beeb who tipped them off.

Some sneaky git, that's for sure.......2/1 police, evens on the prosecution :D

Also I have no doubt some looking for a payout the cynic says in me.

Yet the jury disagreed with you, I am as cynical as you but it also strikes me that you'd have to be pretty darn desperate to go through such a high profile trial/experience if you were on the make.

Yorkshire Police have now admitted to tipping off the News Media.

Pretty low if you ask me and somebody should be held to account.

If it turns out to be a wild goose chase and no evidence is found then they've caused distress uneccessarily. IMHO.

Apparently it was the media that alerted the police of the allegation, hence why the police 'kept the media in the loop'.

Sounds even more fishy.

So the newspaper/media tipped off the police, how did they know about the allegation?

Somebody trying to sell them a story,.....now it becomes more interesting.

some 15 + years ago I was in conversation with some friends. One of which was a lifer policeman in as a cadet at 15 and spent his whole working life pounding the beat.

He was crowd policing in the 60's when Cliffy came to town for a concert and obviously there would be a lot of impressionable kids hanging around.

He told me they were gathered around by the inspector and told things and certain do's and don'ts. I won't repeat them here but in the light of this recent event makes me strongly suspect there may well be some very interesting things to come out now the dam has burst.

I wonder what it is they hope to find in his home, some thirty odd years after the alleged assault?

Seems strange to me,, searching a house 30 yrs later and 150 miles away from the alleged assault.... Nice one Sherlock.

Cliffy has an interesting past and leopards don't change their spots. My gut feeling is they have been waiting for an 'in' to SCR. This now gives them cover to have a good nosey round.

The Police just wanted the publicity,
now they have got it several people have come forward with information to help them with their 30 year old investigations.
They dont need to find anything in his property, they just need information from the public.
