My washing machine has a tendency to fill up with dirty water after use. Told the letting agent and someone came round to fix it. They said there was a problem with the under sink plumbing. In the end they didn't do much to it and it is better than it was but instead of getting rid of the problem it has just slowed it down. If the washing machine is not used for, say 5 days, it fills up with dirty water and then smells come out of the sink when it is used. This same smell might pop up in the bath or bathroom sink too, but go away once I've run water through them.

Is the under sink plumbing wrong?

Many thanks!

you might be able to feed the hose over the top of the side of the cupboard - looks similar to my old set up
