maybe I`ve missed something obvious....but what is the purpose of a plastic washing up bowl :?:

my guess is that the reason women use them, is that, as young girls, they, and their mothers and grandmothers before them, observed their own mothers using washing-up bowls, and have taken that as their role model.

Originaly I suppose bowls were used because people didn't have suitable sinks.

You will find that some women also insist on having a gas cooker, and other women insist on having an electric one... what they insist on will be whatever sort their mothers used.

I did ask....`washing up` she said, at that I replied that she already has a sink with a plug ...why put a bowl in there ?

To use less water. And the old water can be used to water the plants, if you get a really grubby pot, you can clean it over the edge of the bowl so the dirty water goes down the side.

Plus, if you just used the sink (stainless or ceramic), you'd be forever chipping or breaking glasses and pots. Plastic is more forgiving.

So when you p1ss in the sink it doesnt go all over the pots

simmilar sugestion to gcol :D

but more along the lines of a belfast sink being less forgiving when you drop things less capacity as well and possibly an easier way to move and introduce dishes into the sink !!!!!!!

remember the guy that never broke nowt has loads of time to fix things, you never get a blocked up washing up bowl, only afull up bowk
