Simple enough question really - got two stop taps to turn back on when I move house (I expect I can manage it) and had never seen one of these items for sale in DIY Stores etc?

Not to worry, I though I could go ploughing ahead for a key and then find that the 1930s property was going to need some `funny shaped` key instead

In my actual industries I make a genuine effort not to think of people as stupid when they ask a `simple` question.

You will either find a square head. or a T shape like an outside tap. First one you can do with a socket and extension bars.Second with a V cut in a piece of wood. Thirdly 
ask the water board to turn it off. In the path it`s thir responsibility....your pipe when it`s under your garden Just the info I was looking for - saves me buying one as well.
If I'd thought your "simple" question was due to "stupidity", I wouldn't have responded in that manner. I thought you could probably cope with a bit of ribbing over what I took to be a carelessly drafted question. If you were to ask the question again, wouldn't you phrase it differently?dmcclymont said:

Anyway don't have to be too worried about regulations and can do a bit of electrics on the side! No need to worry about if you can get round fitting a condensing boiler, don't need them!

If it`s one of the modern plastic keys with hexagonal heads that fits the valves in the new round chambers with black plastic lids, then just open the neighbours ones till you find one
