I have a small amount of water coming through what looks like a crack in the render on the corner of my chimney inside my loft.
My thoughts are to chisel away existing render in area and rerender.

The problem the roof rafter that goes up is right against the chimney stack. Any suggestions how to overcome this?

Moisture is entering much higher than the crack in the chimney breast - probably the stack flashings or flaunching or whatever defects in the stack might be allowing water to enter your loft.

Pics showing the water stained rafter plumb cut at the ridge, & pics of the stack details will help?
