The Donald has been ridiculed for days for taking an anti malaria drug to ward off Covid.

Looks like the NHS are looking to trial it on staff, as are the Australians and various other countries throughout the world.

Drug trials have been ongoing for many weeks, not just Hydroxychloroquine -but also many other drugs such as Lopinavir-Ritonavir

Barts and Royal Devon started trials on 12th April

I wonder if Trump has a financial interest in Mylan, the US company that is busy ramping up manufacture of the drug
I wonder which Tory Mps stand to gain from bulk buying it.

No the Donald wasnt right and he never has been, but it shows how easily fooled RWR brexiteers are

Do you applaud the Trump strategy of misinformation, lies, scapegoating etc etc?
-I guess so as the politics of spin and lies is central to this UK govt -Johnson, Cummings, Elliott all have links to Steve Bannon etc

A few of DTs theories
Mr Trump was the most high-profile supporter of the bogus "birther" theory that former President Barack Obama was born in Kenya and ineligible for the presidency.

In 2016, Mr Trump suggested the father of his then-Republican presidential rival Ted Cruz had been seen with John F Kennedy's assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, before the president's death. His source for the claim was an unverified tabloid report.

Last April, Mr Trump suggested that the noise from windmills causes cancer. Scientists have found no such health risks.

The president has also shared a baseless theory that former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton were connected to last year's prison suicide of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

I have heard comments on this particular one from people who visit places where they may catch malaria. Doesn't seem to be that popular due to side effects. Not many comments and on TV but..................................

;) Maybe Trump has been taking it for some time

Emotional lability refers to rapid, often exaggerated changes in mood, where strong emotions or feelings (uncontrollable laughing or crying, or heightened irritability or temper) occur. These very strong emotions are sometimes expressed in a way that is greater than the person's emotions.

Not the sort of thing for some one who supposedly can push a certain button.

Urm... do you think Donald is a medical expert?! It's a bit of a stretch to say he was right, lol.

Hydroxychloroquine has been in tests in the UK for quite a while now. It's part of the Recovery study which has multiple arms.

In terms of use the research so far says it doesn't help when you're very ill, in those cases the doses were very high, in the recovery trial (which hasn't reported the results yet) its 12x the maximum normal safe dose in the first 24 hours, and 2x it for the rest of the treatment. When the US Veterans Association did it they found it caused more deaths than they saved, but I don't know how high their doses were.

The other way to use hydroxychloroquine is as a prophylactic, to prevent you catching it (malaria) or reducing the disease level (for Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis). There the side effects are much lower as you're taking it daily or twice daily to build up and maintain a leveli n the blood and it's seen as a generally safe drug. But you need to start taking it for one to three months for it to kick in and give protection or moderate your symptoms.

Trump seems to be touring it for both uses and he seems to be using it for prophylactic use. Neither has enough evidence to support use at the moment, both are being evaluated by medics.

What Trump has done is seen a possible solution and jumped to 'this is the answer'. The main difference between Trump and Hydroxychloroquine and Trump and bleach is that when he touted hydroxychloroquine it was because he'd heard about it from medics, whilst when he did it with bleach he had heard about it from a bleach salesman. He's a stopped clock, eventually he'll be right.

It was mentioned as a possibility very early on - so could have been trialled in China.

:( If any use for prevention our lot will come up with the "world demand so can't get any".

The drug makers provide better info

Common side effects (may affect less than 1 in 10 people)
You have any eye problems. This includes changes in the colour of your eye and problems with your eyesight such as blurring, sensitivity to light or the way you see colour.
Uncommon side effects (may affect less than 1 in 100 people)
You have any muscle weakness, cramps, stiffness or spasms or changes in sensation such as tingling. If you take this medicine for a long time, your doctor will occasionally check your muscles and tendons to make sure they are working properly.

Very common side effects (may affect more than 1 in 10 people)
Stomach pain
Feeling sick

Being sick, diarrhoea
Loss of appetite (anorexia)
Headache

Changes in the colour of your skin or the inside of your nose or mouth

That for a drug that has never been dished out like smarteys.:) It's mmm pretty impressive in a nasty way for one of those.

I pop them like smarties. In terms of side effects it's on the mild end of medications. It's a commonly used drug with a lot of experience behind it.

The main area of concern is generally the liver, which typically means you should be getting liver function tests before starting it and depending on other factors potentially every two months.

Edit: the heart ayrithmia isn't good but I thought that was only for higher doses.

One other side effect...

A small study in Brazil was halted early for safety reasons after coronavirus patients taking a higher dose of chloroquine developed irregular heart rates that increased their risk of a potentially fatal heart arrhythmia. Chloroquine is closely related to the more widely used drug hydroxychloroquine.12 Apr 2020

Hydroxychloroquine has no side effects for certain groups of people, narcissists are in that group.

I see them like statins with bells on. Once used on very large groups of people all sorts pop up and that list gives them a much worse start than statins had. I see it as something a doctor may supply along with warnings. That is unusual. They might come to the conclusion that treatment is a better option.

narcissists
  • an inflated sense of importance
  • a deep need for excessive attention and admiration
  • lack of empathy for others
  • often having troubled relationships

:) Sounds like certain politicians from the right.

.
He also claimed that it was NOT a London bus buried at the Pole , N. or S. ? but a Greyhound bus. allegedly;)

"The president himself, according to Peter Baker, Katie Rogers, David Enrich, and Maggie Haberman has a financial interest in Sanofi, the French pharmaceutical company that manufactures the drug under the brand Plaquenil."
