After all the driving rain today a few wet patches have appeared on the interior walls in my downstairs toilet. I've had a look round outside and I can't see any broken mortar joints or broken bricks. The silicon around the double glazed window all looks to be ok aswell so I can't see anywhere water could be getting in.

The house was built in the 1980s and it has had cavity wall insulation fitted at some point before we bought it (the little polystyrene balls). Just wondering what I could do the sort the issue if possible, or who would be the best to call (general builder or a specialist). Is the clear water proof brick paint (the breathable stuff) going to help matters or is it likely the make matters worse.

I wish I could be more helpful but some of those damp patches if not all are quite probably the result of poor workmanship by a bricklayer allowing mortar bridges to build on wall ties. Once the outer skin is saturated the water can be drawn through to inner leafs with that type of problem.

I would expect your inner leaf to be built of some kind of lightweight block if that was the case.

I am not familiar with any easy fix to that type of problem.
