Wet Rafters

Hi all,

I'm looking for some opinions on the cause of some wet rafters in the attic. The rafters to the rear (north facing) elevation are all wet on top and down the sides. The rafters on the front (south facing) elevation look to be okay.

I'm trying to work out if the likely cause is a roof leak or condensation or a mixture of both (or worst case scenario if it needs a new roof). I've attached some pictures of the rafters in the attic and the external rear elevation of the roof. There are a couple of loose roof tiles on the front elevation (shown in the last picture) but this shouldn't be causing the issue as it's low down on the opposite side of the roof (although obviously this does need sorting).

There is a water tank in the loft which doesn't have a lid on it and also the house doesn't have any extraction in the bathroom or kitchen which are both to the rear of the house (same side as the wet rafters) so not sure if this has anything to do with it? There also doesn't appear to be any ventilation in the roof space and I'm not sure if the insulation is packed up too close to the roof in the eaves and if this is affecting airflow? Also the roof tiles appear to have been painted at some point between 2009-2012 (not sure if this has any affect).

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Think that's just condensation, it doesn't look like the rafters or tiles are in a bad state to me (not a professional roofer!)

I'd go with condensation too.
You have bitumen base type 1f felt which is none breathable.
Get a few vents in and re fit the slipped tiles at gutter level
Tiles are Marley Ludlow plus fwiw

Open the felt laps that will help.

Make sure your loft hatch is sealed otherwise warm moist air can get into the loft there.
