If the situation was reversed and we had migrants trying to leave our shores, I presume you would be wanting our police to stop them leaving?

Hold them at the channel halfway line, phone the french up and tell them they need to come and rescue some of their people who are in danger.

If they won't, we go to their beach and dump them there.

Or take the US approach, how they deal with drug smugglers in boats...

(a far less serious and dangerous crime than people smuggling)
