Plod and the truth...

The video of the e-bike being closely followed by the police van looks damning but, according to a timeline published this morning, the van was actually more than a minute behind the e-bike. If correct then the video shown by BBC news was doctored to make it look like they were chasing.

The evidence is a blurry short video, in which the bike and police van are not in the same shot.

I'd hold fire on your assertion that this is proof of anything, anyone with no experience or specialist software could pretty easily edit together two videos from different times. I could make a video of Jesus walking through London with a timestamp of next week using a free website if I wanted to, the days of video being unquestionable evidence were lots of years ago now.

The police have re-asserted that the van wasn't there. It may be best to hold back and see what they say about the video, it's probably being examined frame-by-frame looking for the signs of edits.

They may also be able to get an injunction to get the original video directly from its source (e.g. Ring doorbells). This may take some time.
I'll blow my own trumpet then. Thought it all looked very dodgy from the start, sadly the BBC and many others treat video evidence as reliable, it's trivially easy to doctor these days.

I doubt that the BBC themselves doctored it, but they definitely failed to consider that it wasn't certain to be reliable evidence.

What was dodgy about it? The police admitted the van was following the scooter at that point?

There are protocols in place for plod to give chase. They are supposed to break off the chase if its kids at risk, but at the same time the public outcry if plod aren't authorised to stop do-as-you-likeys who actively use their kids to commit crime.

AIUI The police never claimed that the boys on the e-bike were never chased.
They said that they were not being chased at the time of the accident.

There is a difference.
They were chased because they were doing something they ought not to and they rode away from a police vehicle, easy grounds for them to chase & detain them for questioning to ascertain if what they were doing was actually legal (which it likely was not).
The same applies to anyone, you run away or drive away from the police at speed and they are going to chase you - they may decide to give up the chase in the name of public safety (or you may be able to get away).

What happens afterwards is your own fault, 2 lads on an e-bike at speed is not going to be easy to control, as much as it's sad that they lost their lives I do not believe that this is the fault of the police - more their own fault, they had the clear and simple option of stopping and chose not to - that decision unfortunately cost them their life.

I have watched the video and it does not show the police chasing them at the time of the accident, there are data records to show that the police were in fact several streets away at the time.

Make up what you want but the rioting seen in the area afterwards was unjustified and wrong.
I fully expect the enquiry to find no fault for the police.

I shall not be discussing this further, nor will I pander to any requests for evidence, links or proof of my opinion or the given facts.

Can you name a better reliable source?
Thought it was more a question of who's best of a bad bunch.
Thought you might have come up with that rather than target me whereby my answer would be obvious given my posting history.

You never reveal your sources. Just wondered where I should be looking
