Hi

Could someone please tell me what these decorative ridge line roof tiles are called and also the thing on the roof above the window in this picture?

Are these tiles expensive each and does it require planning permission to put them on a house that doesn't already have them?

Finally, can any you roofing specialists confirm whether planning permission is needed to change the roof if you're going from what appears to be red tiles gone brown with dirt to the type of tiles shown here in the main picture of this link?

Are you on about the crested ridge tiles or the finial ridge ends?

That building looks like it may be 'of interest' i.e. Heritage or listed/conservation etc. You would be wise to seek permission before altering its appearance.

I'm actually trying to replicate the top line of decorative tiles for my house, which this is not.

So it's called a crested ridge tile? What about the end tile?

I'm referring to those polo type round things on the very top line of the roof and also the thing on the far left of the top of the roof as circled in red.

I have no idea on the costing, hence my earlier question as to how much do people think this costs. Because we will be re-roofing our roof following a loft conversion, I was just considering my options. Arn't all tiles made by machine these days, even decorative ones? What are the advantages of hand made tiles?

in relation to my other questions, do these decorative tiles require planning permission?

Unless your house is listed, those ridge tiles would not need planning permission.

A loft conversion on that building is gonna look great.

That's not my house, as mentioned, I took the photo to show the ridgeline tiles.

My house is not listed. Are there any particular rules which govern when planning permission is needed when dealing with roof tiles. I guess a drastic change of colour from the old to to new would require it, but how does one know what the limits are to other changes if the tiles are not the same type?

Many people re-roof their roofs with different-colour tiles, and the planning dept cant do anything.
It's not prohibited in the permitted development rules, so it will be permitted.
